Google Cloud Print for Mobile

Google Cloud Print for mobile documents and Gmail for mobile has been officially unveiled by the Big G – bringing wireless printing to your Android (2.1+) or iOS device, or “most” phones that support HTML5.

“Imagine printing an important document from your smartphone on the way to work and finding the printout waiting for you when you walk in the door,” said Tyler Odean of the Google Cloud Print team.

“Just open a document in Google Docs or an email in Gmail in your mobile browser and choose ‘Print’ from the dropdown menu in the top right corner. You can also print certain kinds of email attachments (such as .pdf or .doc) by clicking the ‘Print’ link that appears next to them.”

Obviously you need your printer to be hooked up to your home network (or wired to your PC) and Mac and Linux users won’t be able to join in the fun (can printing be fun?) just yet.

The new feature is rolling out now for English speaking users in the US. To get printing, you will first need to connect your printer to Google Cloud Print.

Polaroid GL10 Instant Mobile Printer

Polaroid has announced its new GL10 Instant Mobile Printer.

The GL10 quickly prints out images from mobile phones and digital cameras, which can be transferred in one click via Bluetooth or USB.
Once the images are received, the printer can churn out 3×4 inch photos. A free Polaroid Android app allows you to print out the images with a classic Polaroid border or your own customised border in less than 45 seconds.

Polaroid printers use next generation ZINK Zero Ink thermal technology to produce images, meaning the printers never run out of ink. ZINK paper contains cyan, yellow and magenta dye crystals embedded inside that appear as regular white photo paper, but transform when heated. The paper is also water-resistant, smudge proof and tear-proof and once it has been inserted in the printer, it’s ready to go and when it’s fully charged, the portable printer can produce up to 35 prints at a time.

Polaroid already manufactures printing products including the Polaroid Pogo printer, which prints 2×3 inch stickers, and the Polaroid Pogo Instant Digital Camera which combines a digital camera and printer. Both also use ZINK technology.

Capable of connecting wirelessly to a wide range of smartphones including Blackberry, Android and Windows compatible phones – the Polaroid GL10 Instant Mobile Printer available with £119.99.

Unfortunately while Apple’s support downloads site lists the update, the linked downloads pages for the new software points to the older 7.6.9 update so we cannot yet link to it from here. Apple’s security updates page mentions that the update mainly is for security to prevent the execution of arbitrary code in specific situations when handling media with the QuickTime program.
